About Eleanor Mae

Eleanor Mae started, as most good ideas do, with my dad, Bruce Springsteen, and a shirt I couldn't find.

I wanted to recreate a graphic tee my dad had made in the 1960s. Then I wanted a vintage Springsteen tee. Then I realized that, as a Gen X empty nester with a lifelong devotion to VERY GOOD vintage, I could not find a GOOD graphic T-shirt to save my life. Then I figured out how to make my own.

I began hunting down deadstock vintage iron ons, old concert tees, jeans older than my daughters, and other things with a little history to them. Then I considered my beloved L.L.Bean Boat & Totes — classic, indestructible, but feeling a little too preppy for my current mood — and started covering them in patches, souvenirs, inside jokes and whatever else made me laugh.

The brand is part vintage treasure hunt, part nostalgia trip, and part refusal to dress like a sensible woman of a certain age. I named this little project after Eleanor Mae, my beloved dog and soulmate. She was wise beyond her years, deeply opinionated and completely herself.
