Let us make a bag for you or someone you love!

We start with a pre-loved L.L.Bean Boat & Tote and turn it into something that could only belong to you.

Tell us what you love: places, bands, causes, college, people, sports, inside jokes, old summer camps, questionable hobbies, excellent hobbies, pets, cocktails, books, movies, initials, lucky numbers.

Each tote is individually designed using a mix of vintage, found, embroidered, and Eleanor Mae patches, arranged one at a time until the whole thing feels just right. Every patch is sewn onto the bag for permanence — because this is meant to be carried, stuffed under airplane seats, dragged to soccer games, taken to the beach, and generally become even better with age.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Choose your tote size.

Select your size and add it to your cart.

2. Tell us about yourself.

After adding your tote to your cart, you'll see an Order Special Instructions box — this is where the magic happens. Give us as much, or as little, direction as you'd like. Colors you love. Colors you hate. A phrase your mother always says. Your inexplicable devotion to Diet Coke. Whatever feels like you. Or give us three words and we'll take it from there. For example, baddie, baddie, baddie.

You can also tell us your preferred tote color, handle length, and open-top or zip-top preference. Because we work with pre-owned bags, we can't guarantee every detail, but we'll do our best.

3. We source, design, and build it.

We source a pre-owned L.L.Bean Boat & Tote and curate the patches specifically for you. We'll design the layout and sew each patch securely into place.

The result is FABULOUS.

THE FINE PRINT

Every Eleanor Mae custom tote is one of a kind. Exact patches cannot be guaranteed. Vintage and found patches come and go, and some of our favorites are things we may never find twice.

Your notes give us the direction; the final patch selection and design are ours. That's what makes it an Eleanor Mae.

If something is truly essential to you, put it in your order notes and we'll let you know if we can't make it happen.

ABOUT THE TOTES

These are pre-loved L.L.Bean Boat & Totes.

They may arrive at Eleanor Mae already softened from years of use, or still weirdly stiff after decades in someone's closet. You may see fading, small marks, discoloration, variations in the canvas, softened handles, or other evidence that your tote had a life before you.

We source each bag individually, clean it, inspect it, and choose totes we think deserve another chapter. Then we add yours.
